Contraindications
There are very few genuine reasons why an immunisation should not be given. Let your
doctor or health visitor know if your child:
- Is unwell or has a fever (the injection can be delayed until they are better)
- Has had complications from any previous immunisations
- Has had a previous severe allergic reaction after eating eggs (this means a swollen
mouth and throat, difficulty in breathing, shock, or a rash on the face and body, like the
red and white patches after a nettle sting). This is because some vaccines are cultured on
egg. Click here to read about the latest
research on vaccination and egg allergy.
- Is taking any medicine, particularly steroids
