Thrush during breastfeeding

Thrush is a fungal infection which can appear on the breasts and in the baby’s mouth as well as in their genitals. You may notice white spots on your breasts and in the baby’s mouth, and your breasts may become flaky and very itchy. You may experience soreness and pain deep in the breast. It often appears after a course of antibiotics and can spread from mother to baby via breastfeeding

Remedies

  • Your doctor will give you an antifungal cream
  • You should ensure that your baby is treated at the same time as you to reduce the risk of him passing the infection back
