Breastfeeding - Blocked duct

This can cause a small, tender lump in your breast. A blocked duct occurs when breast milk has been stopped from flowing freely, perhaps by a tight bra, or if you have slept awkwardly, or if your breasts have been engorged.

Remedies

  • Use warmth and massage to gently disperse the lump
  • Feed your baby frequently, positioning his lower jaw nearest to the lump
  • Feed from the sore side first
  • Massage and express after a feed if you can still feel the lump
