babyworld urges you to sign up to the Breastfeeding Manifesto
Figures at the beginning of 2007 show that
fewer than one per cent of mothers breastfeed exclusively for the
first six months. Alison Baum from the Breastfeeding Manifesto coalition
says "Women need to be able to feel confident and comfortable
to breastfeed wherever they need to."
183 MPs and celebrities support a manifesto to promote
breastfeeding and create an environment where women feel more comfortable
doing so.We at babyworld fully support its aims and we encourage
you to sign up to the manifesto:
The Breastfeeding Manifesto
calls on the Government to:
1. Implement the global strategy
for infant and young child feeding
2. Implement postnatal guidance
as outlined by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical
Excellence)
3. Improve training for health
professionals
4. Work with employers to create
a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers
5. Develop policy and practice
to support breastfeeding in public places
6. Include breastfeeding education
in the curriculum
7. Adopt the WHO international
code of marketing breast milk substitutes and subsequent relevant
solutions.
