babyworld urges you to sign up to the
Breastfeeding Manifesto
Figures at the beginning of 2007 show that fewer than one per cent of mothers breastfeed exclusively for the first six months. Alison Baum from the Breastfeeding Manifesto coalition says "Women need to be able to feel confident and comfortable to breastfeed wherever they need to." 183 MPs and celebrities support a manifesto to promote breastfeeding and create an environment where women feel more comfortable doing so.We at babyworld fully support its aims and we encourage you to sign up to the manifesto: The Breastfeeding Manifesto calls on the Government to: 1. Implement the global strategy for infant and young child feeding 2. Implement postnatal guidance as outlined by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) 3. Improve training for health professionals 4. Work with employers to create a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers 5. Develop policy and practice to support breastfeeding in public places 6. Include breastfeeding education in the curriculum 7. Adopt the WHO international code of marketing breast milk substitutes and subsequent relevant solutions. |
