So
spa so good
"My only complaint was that it lasted 70 minutes… why oh! why can't
it last the full nine months!"
I am: Alix, 25, 33 weeks pregnant
from Haslemere, Surrey.
I went to: The
Nirvana Spa, Wokingham
I had: The mother-to-be package
My day: At 33 weeks pregnant I couldn't
think of anything better than to put my feet up and relax for a whole
day, with no phone, toddler or husband to disturb me.
When I arrived at Nirvana Spa I changed into a complimentary dressing
gown and went and sat by the pool for an hour to relax and enjoy the peace
and quiet, with only the sound of running water entering my thoughts.
My first treatment was floatation. This involved floating in a pool containing
dead sea salts, which aid relief of pain and stress, and is a blessing
to those feeling very heavy with bump - you will feel as light as a feather
and can enjoy lying on your back without the heaviness. After enjoying
the floatation session I went and had lunch. I was initially worried that
they would make me eat healthily on just lettuce leaves and cucumber,
but thankfully they had lots of choice; from ham and chicken to fish and
cheese plus lots of different salads to accompany.
Back to the poolside armed with magazines, books and a large glass of
water and more relaxation. The spa is very quiet and the main room is
the poolside, which has plenty of loungers to lie on. There are plants
and trees around the spa, which helps you to feel relaxed and calm. My
last treatment was the Clarins mum-to-be package. I had heard about it
but knew nothing of it, so was in looking forward to finding what it consisted
of. When I arrived I was taken to a side room and told to wrap a towel
around me and sit on this special chair. Once I had got myself comfortable
the therapist, Emma, went through what she would do, and then she got
started. The treatment began with a back and shoulder massage which was
just bliss. I then moved on the bed and she gave my bump a bit of a rub,
which the baby really enjoyed. She then gave me a facial followed by a
neck and head massage, hands, feet and leg massage. I was in totally heaven.
I cannot recommend this treatment more; it was pure heaven and perfect
for the later stages of pregnancy where you just want to do nothing. My
only complaint was that it lasted 70 minutes… why oh why can't it last
the full nine months!
All in all the day was wonderful, and the Clarins treatment was just
heavenly. I would recommend the spa highly, although if you are in the
later stages of pregnancy you may want to take your own towel and dressing
gown as the Spa's ones are not big enough - it was interesting trying
to keep my dressing gown done up and keep my modesty!! I also found that
the flip flops they gave me were very uncomfortable and I ended up not
using them at all.
Treatments: I had a floatation session
in the Celestial pool and a Clarins mum-to be-treatment. A complete treatment
for the face and body which centres on those areas most affected by pregnancy.
Suitable from 12 weeks.
Cost: Floatation treatments are part
of a day or evening package and the price includes full use of facilities
and food. The weekend price is £115 or Monday to Thursday £95, or you
can go between 5pm - 10.30 pm for £55. Clarins mum-to-be treatment £55.
Verdict: A fantastic day. As I have
a toddler I found that spending the day in peace and tranquillity meant
that I could actually spend some time with my unborn baby, which is a
very rare occurrence. It gave me the chance to just enjoy being pregnant
and feel at one with my baby.
The spa test: 4/5 - the gown, towels
and flip-flops were a bit of a disappointment - not big enough to accomodate
a growing bump.
