Meet the Mumpreneurs!<< continued from page 1 Behind every great baby idea there's a mum who's been there, done that, and had baby posset on her T-shirt! Babyworld takes a look at 'mumpreneurs' who have used their experience of parenthood to forge a new career… Precious made! We're all proud parents. Who wouldn't like to see a picture of their baby on every piece of stationery? Joanne thought this and decided parents needed a company who could provide them with stationery to make them feel proud.
Jo is proud of what she does for a living now and has found it has given her a chance to see her daughter grow up as well as pursue an exciting career. 'I'm glad I do what I love. It's not always easy and I'm still learning. I have stayed at home to enjoy my daughter and see her first "everything". I love being a mum, but to be a fulfilled mummy I need to know I am more than that. I never ever thought I could but having my daughter changed me in many more ways than I really ever knew.' It's a clever little idea that has saved us parents thousands in osteopath's bills!. Here's the story behind the invention.
Julia's injury helped her come up with the idea of a hipseat to help mums. She talked over her idea with osteopaths, physiotherapists and designers to arrive with something that was not only practical for parents but also comfortable. Luckily her baby would nap - as it was during these daytime sleeps that Julia would work on developing her idea into reality in her spare room. As her venture has grown in popularity so has her workspace - she now has large business premises in Bridgwater, Somerset and supplies companies such as Mothercare, Boots and John Lewis! The
inspiration for her personalised stationery business was the birth of
her daughter (she had sadly miscarried her first child). 'I feel I could
explode with love for her. She was the beginning of my business and the
inspiration every day.' Joanne started working on birth announcement cards,
on which she wanted to print a photo of her beloved daughter. As her baby
carried on growing, so did the cards Jo created for special occasions,
such as her Christening, first birthdays and all the thank-you cards for
the presents they had received!
Julia
Minchin, an ex-marketing manager, suffered from constant back pain after
the birth of her second son Olly. Her osteopath told her that she was
throwing her spine out because of the awkward way in which she was carrying
her first son Tom. Julia had obviously seen how all us mums have one hip
higher than the other as we try to carry our heavy children around and
guessed correctly that we might all have unhappy backs!
