heartCountdown to conception heart

You're more likely to get pregnant if you’re fit, and your body will cope better with both pregnancy and labour. There’s not a lot you can do to get fit before Valentine’s Day, but it might be an idea to set February 15 as your day to start getting fit.

Aim for three lots of 20-minute exercise a week as a minimum – still time to get a few sit-ups in now!

Look at your diet – is there enough folic acid?

If you’re having a Valentine’s meal, either cook or select from the menu, food that is rich in folic acid and give yourself a last minute boost! You can choose from: asparagus, sweetcorn or chickpeas for a boost or click here for more foods.

Book yourself in with the GP for a rubella shot if you are planning to conceive soon and your immunity might be down. The best time is three months before you start trying.

Stub out the fags – smoking reduces both your chances of conceiving and your chances of carrying a baby to full-term.
