Take time out

It's 4am. The baby's bawling, your partner's snoring and you're exhausted. Plus your boobs look like rugby balls and that porridgey  belly isn't shrinking at all. It's time you had a break...

Nobody tells you quite how debilitating it is, coping with both a brand-new baby and upset hormones. Yes, you're besotted, but you also want time out, a new body - and did we mention sleep?

A break on a sunny beach will only have you panicking about sand in tiny orifices rather than relaxing, so a spa holiday makes sense. And while most spas make you dump your baby in a crèche while you float between massages and exercise classes, the good news is that an increasing number now offer dedicated post-natal programmes to help boost mum's morale.

All claim to aid a return to that pre-stretchmark figure, but many also provide a posse of Mrs Doubtfire-alikes to look after your little one. But your baby can be more actively involved as well - and no, that doesn't mean baby boxercise or fat-free formula milk. Think massages for both of you, shared fizzy mineral-water baths, plus water-baby sessions in the pool - all in a calm, nurturing environment.

Sounds good? Below we explore some of our favourite options.
