National
Family Week - dedicated day!
Forget banks - let's have a day dedicated to celebrating UK families
With new research revealing that 83% of the population think we deserve
an extra bank holiday dedicated to UK families, National Family Week is
calling to get a new national holiday officially added to the calendar.
With the UK trailing well behind the rest of Europe with only eight bank
holidays per year, compared to 11 in France and Italy and up to 15 in
Spain, National Family Week is calling for practical support from the
government to introduce a new public holiday - a national family day -
to give families more opportunities to get together.
National Family Week is a new celebration of family life designed to
encourage families to spend more quality time together. Already billed
as the largest ever coalition on family issues, National Family Week will
kick off this Spring Bank Holiday, 25th May.
Kevin Steele, director of National Family Week said: "Encouraging families
to spend quality time together is one of the principal reasons behind
National Family Week. Between the 25th and 31st May over 1,500 events
will be taking place across the length and breadth of the country for
families to join in, but what we want to see is more time made for families.
We hope that people across the country will join the campaign; in order
for it to succeed it needs support."

Little Chef conducted the research as part of their campaign to Bring
Back Family Days Out. Marketing Director, Lindsay Howard, said "Spending
quality time together as a family is extremely important, but more and
more this is being neglected with time and money pressures getting in
the way. We fully support National Family Week's campaign for an additional
bank holiday for UK families. After all, our poll clearly shows that the
majority of the UK is very much behind the idea."
