Ode
to Dad
To celebrate Father's Day we asked you to write a poem to him to tell
him he's special. We were really impressed with your poetry-writing skills
Thank you to everyone for entering and we're sorry we can't publish them
all, there are simply too many! Enjoy the 3 winning entries……
It's a Dad's Life by Jayne, mother to Jack (12),
Sam (10), Ben (5), Megan (3) and Tom (17 months) for their dad, Billy, also
father to James (23) and Lexie (22)
I'm not so good at this poetry game,
But I'll have a shot all the same,
My husband sure deserves some praise,
With all these kids he has to raise.
Toys need fixing, clothes need buying,
Two are fighting, someone's crying,
"Dad, can you take us to the sea?",
"I want a story", "I've hurt my knee",
Homework problems? Dad's the man,
A wizard with the frying pan,
Who likes eggs and who'll eat cheese?
Not an easy bunch to please,
Dad's the one who buys the treats,
Books and games, ice-creams and sweets.
A friend to turn to when we're down,
To raise a smile, dismiss a frown,
Someone to teach what's wrong, what's right,
That special hug and kiss goodnight,
There's only one thing left to say,
We love you Dad, Happy Father's Day!
By Nicci for
husband Stephen from Aimee and Alex (4), Millie (18 months) and bump!
We love you from the bottom of our pink cotton socks
We love you from our tiny toes to our golden curly locks
We love it when you let us dunk our biscuits in your tea
We love it when you tickle us after we have hidden your key!
We love it when you put us to bed with a kiss and a cuddle
We love it when you let us run and jump in a puddle
We love you daddy, much more then words could ever say
We love you daddy, we hope you have a lovely Daddys Day
Emma has written this poem to her husband David
from their angel Jude Gabriel. Emma is now expecting twins
Daddy...wow its twins, I expect you're feeling scared,
I know each day reminds you of the times we would have shared,
You had so many plans for us, places we would see,
Just me you and mummy, your new family of three.
Those dreams were taken from you,
They were snatched right from your hands,
But you stayed so strong for mummy,
So please try to understand,
That together you will make it through,
You're going to be just fine,
That special place deep in your heart
Will always be just mine.
Daddy you've so much love to give,
There's still room in your heart,
This is'nt the end of our dreams you know,
In fact its just the start.
'Cause Daddy I'll always be with you,
So remember that when you feel down,
and when once again you feel joy in your life,
That's when you'll know I'm around.
So let's share the future together,
I am gone but my memory's alive,
I am going to be a big brother now daddy.......
it's you me and mummy, and the twins,
Your new family of five.
Happy Father's day Daddy, sending you a kiss on the wind,
From your son Jude xxxx
