DIARY OF A DAD-TO-BE

WEEK 30

More good news this week... another of Maria’s friends has given birth to a baby girl. Usual enquiries as to weight, colour of eyes etc. are put on the back burner by Maria – 'how was the birth?' is the pre-eminent question in her mind.

Patricia had just as difficult time with her first child as Maria had with Sam but, this time, she reports that the process was far easier.

I can tell that Maria’s hopes are raised, she so desperately wants to avoid a caesarean this time. The recovery period after having Sam was so long and painful.

Even though the fact that Patricia has had a natural birth cannot possibly mean that Maria will follow suit, I sense that the anxiety is lifted.

I just hope the easing of tension is transmitted to our unborn baby – come on little one, I say to myself, make it easy for your mum.

Your mind starts acting on crumbs of comfort in these situations without any scientific basis. Let’s just hope for the best.
