DIARY
OF A DAD-TO-BE
WEEK 24
Maria books the appointment with the private clinic for next week,
and the anxious wait begins. It’s a tough time, all our hopes and
dreams are on hold as we await the verdict.
Sam, of course, is oblivious to the stress. He’s his usual
bright, bubbly self and is a real tonic to us.
We’ve agreed that whatever the outcome we’ll cope, but somehow
it’s easier to face the future when you already have a gem of a kid
developing before your eyes.
Unfortunately Maria’s employers are also oblivious to the
situation and are piling ever increasing amounts of work on a woman
over halfway through her pregnancy.
Maybe the workload has the effect of diverting her mind from
thinking about next week, but Maria is struggling to keep the anxiety
at bay.
Throughout the week I’m a sounding board for Maria’s fears, and
vice versa. It’s a low point of the pregnancy, but if we can get
through it the reward could be fantastic.
I try to convince her to think positively, it’s really the only
way in the circumstances although I admit I’m talking through
clenched teeth.
