My Baby... Get Bidding!
An oil painting of former PM Tony Blair, champagne with Dame Judi Dench in her dressing room, a day driving Aston Martins and dinner with Corrie Romeo Dev are just a few of the prizes up for grabs in a charity fundraising auction that goes live on 5th November.
Stars from screen, music and politics have pledged their support to baby charity Baby Lifeline by donating stunning 'money can't buy' prizes to an online auction that will run on www.ebay.co.uk/charity from the 5 November to 15 November. Sir Ben Kingsley, Hollywood director Sam Mendes, Elton John, comedians Francesca Martinez and Ricky Gervais and Waking the Dead star Trevor Eve are just a few of the celebrities who are also supporting the auction. Funds raised in the auction will help the charity to pay for lifesaving equipment for maternity and special care baby units in hospitals across the country, and also fund cutting edge training for specialists in the maternity sector. Dame Judi Dench, who is Vice President of Baby Lifeline and offering tickets to see her star in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Rose Theatre in Kingston next year, and the opportunity to join her for champagne in her dressing room, said: "I am very proud to support Baby Lifeline. Medical advances in the care of pregnant women and babies have led to higher demands on funds for equipment and training.
Money raised from this auction will help to save a baby in a hospital near you." Judy Ledger, Chief Executive of Baby Lifeline, set up the charity after she lost three premature babies. She said: "We are overwhelmed to have support from such an array of big names. It is amazing! We are aiming to raise at least £2.5 million to allow us to continue to fund equipment and lifesaving training projects for maternity units up and down the country. "I would appeal to anyone who can to get involved in the auction. Thanks to the generosity of so many there is something for everyone - from a family fun day out or a hotel stay in Hong Kong to meeting and greeting or dining with A-list celebrities.
Every penny generated from this auction will make a huge difference to pregnant mums and newborn babies across the country." Some of the scores of auction prizes include: " Trevor Eve is offering a day on the set of Waking the Dead and lunch with him and the cast there to the highest bidder. " A signed oil painting portrait donated by the former Prime Minister Tony Blair " An exclusive invitation day with Aston Martin Lagonda. " A day on a film set with Sir Ben Kingsley as he makes his next movie " A tour of the Coronation St. set and meet some of the cast " Dinner with Corrie favourite Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) " Two box tickets to see Mark Knopfler at the MEN in May 2010 and accommodation " David Moorcroft creating a personal training programme for someone running a 10K or half marathon next year " Dinner for two at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton in Ireland.
