In October 2008, Natalie wanted to take up a new hobby.
As a full time mummy she realised she couldn't do too much during the
day or anything that would take her away from home. She decided to make
a few decorative plaques for her home and when she decided to see if there
was any interest in them, the response was fantastic.
Natalie set out to create a website that offered unique
handmade gifts at affordable prices. She designed and created the website
herself. She implemented a shopping cart and set the site up to receive
secure payments via Paypal. Once the site was complete she set about marketing
it. It has been a few years since she had been taught the basics of web
design so she was a little rusty, but with her enthusiasm and a number
of free support resources she got there in the end.

is so much information and support out there for anyone who is unsure
how to go ahead with their venture. There are a number of business forums
and free "mumpreneurs" resources, which have answers to just about anything
you would need to know, from registering as self-employed to implementing
shipping costs on your website."
My aim now is to encourage other mums to pursue their
ideas. I initially thought it would be impossible to run a business and
look after a little one but the combination is fantastic. It's not everyone's
cup of tea, but its certainly right for me. I get to be creative, use
my brain and most important of all, spend time with George. Natalie
