Child and baby car seats are divided into eight different groups, in accordance with rigorous safety regulations and the European Standard R44.04. The standard divides the groups by your child's weight, rather than age, as shown in the table below:

When should you purchase a new car seat?

Move from a Group 0+ to a Group 1 car seat when your child can sit up unaided with confidence, exceeds the weight limit, or if their head is higher than the top of the infant carrier.

Move from a Group 1 to a Group 2-3 car seat when the weight limit is exceeded, or your child’s eye-line is higher than the seat’s highest point.
