As a new mum it's only natural that you want to
protect your baby from germs - instinctively you want to bring
your baby home to a safe and germ free environment. But what
has come to be known as the hygiene hypothesis (which encourages
mums to expose their baby to germs in order to develop their
immune system) is causing confusion surrounding the process
of disinfection in the home.
Dettol, the trusted authority in home hygiene
and disinfection, enables mums to strike a balance when it comes
to home hygiene.
Dettol believes that bringing a baby home to an
environment of extreme cleanliness is not ideal but nor is letting
them come into contact with harmful bacteria, which exists in
a variety of 'germ hotspots' in the home. But by adopting a
process of 'targeted disinfection' - using Dettol's Surface
Cleanser Spray and Wipes range - mum can quickly and efficiently
kill germs and reduce the risk of infection to her little one.
A regular home hygiene routine does not mean having
to clean the entire house - this is not essential. Dettol recommends
a process of 'targeted disinfection', focussing on the main
items prone to gathering germs around a baby - germ hotspots
that need maximum attention:
- Changing table and changing mat
- Highchair
- Potty
- Nappy Bin
With babies being particularly vulnerable to picking up infections,
disinfection is vital, especially for newborns whose immune systems
are not fully developed.
In fact, cross-contamination was identified as the main cause
of infection in a study of 50 homes in which children under 4
years of age were known to be infected with Salmonella spp. Other
family members were found to have had the same illness as the
index patient in 34% of homes
Dettol Antibacterial Surface Cleanser Spray is proven to kill
99.9% of harmful bacteria, including Salmonella, Listeria, E.
coli and MRSA. And for when time is precious, the Dettol Antibacterial
Surface Cleanser Wipes are a handy must-have for mums. They are
so portable and easy to use; mum can even pop them in her handbag
when on the move. Both the Surface Cleanser Spray and the Surface
Cleanser Wipes are bleach-free, leaving no taint or odour - ideal
to use on a variety of surfaces and even where food is prepared.
To help mums kick start their home hygiene routine, Dettol has
developed a set of protection tips and guidelines to help mum
combat the 'germ hotspots' in the home:
Dettol's Top Protection Tips:
- Ensure all your baby equipment is thoroughly clean, and wipe
down the areas where it is stored using a few squirts of Dettol
Anti-Bacterial Surface Cleanser.
- Unlike many general household cleaning products, Dettol Anti-Bacterial
Surface Cleanser and Wipes do not contain bleach and are ideal
for keeping her changing mat and high chair hygienically clean.
- If you're bottle feeding, ensure all of your baby's feeding
equipment is properly sterilised. Also, use an anti-bacterial
cleanser such as Dettol Anti-Bacterial Surface Cleanser on any
surfaces where you prepare your baby's food.
Dettol, and its recommended process of 'targeted disinfection',
makes it easier to protect the house from germs, leaving mum with
the reassurance and peace of mind that her little one is protected.
