Hello everyone, my name is Kerry and I have 3 children Cavan ('97), Keely ('99) and Rowan ('01).

Babyworld has been part of my life since Cavan was 2 and Keely was 1. When I found out I was expecting Rowan (birth story) I joined the BW antenatal club, where I have made some wonderful friends, and visit it nearly every day!

I am so pleased that Babyworld has launched the Vegan/vegetarian families discussion forum. I think having children can be a huge and daunting responsibility, and parents sometimes feel like a bit of reassurance or advice would be nice, but don't necessarily want to go to a health professional. The Vegetarian and vegan forum is a place where you are free to chat with other parents without being judged, hopefully finding advice and support or just a friendly discussion!

I became vegetarian at 3 years old. I was one of 3 children living in an omnivorous family. My mum used to talk to us at meal times about where food came from, and when I found out bacon was from a pig etc. I refused to eat it anymore! Quickly I became vegetarian!

Cavan and Keely

In 1999, when my second child was born I became Vegan, because while breastfeeding her, I gave a lot of thought to the dairy industry!

I intended to bring my children up as vegetarian, however my eldest son decided to follow a vegan diet at 4 years old after he questioned why I didn’t eat certain things. My daughter followed a year later of her own accord when she was 4. My husband who had been vegetarian for many years followed our daughter into veganism. My youngest has been vegan since birth!

I hope this will be a lively and friendly forum, where information and support can be shared and where people are not judged by their life choices.

I look forward to hearing all about you and your worries and joys about bringing up your children Vegetarian/Vegan (and perhaps some good suggestions for dinner!).

I also moderate the Special needs discussion forum.
